چکیده

ABSTRACT Congestion ontrol proto ols rely on re eivers to support fair bandwidth sharing. However, a re eiver has in entives to eli it self-bene ial bandwidth allo ations and hen e may manipulate its ongestion ontrol proto ol. Whereas the issue of re eiver misbehavior has been studied for uni ast ongestion ontrol, the impa t of re eiver misbehavior in multi ast remains unexplored. In this paper, we examine the problem of fair ongestion ontrol in distrusted multiast environments. We lassify standard me hanisms for multi ast ongestion ontrol and determine their potential vulnerabilities to re eiver misbehavior. Our evaluation of prominent multi ast proto ols shows that ea h of them is sus eptible to atta ks by a misbehaving re eiver.

Congestion Control Scheme for Reliable Multicast Improving Intra-Session Fairness with Network Support

In reliable multicast communications, data packets are disseminated to all receivers in a multicast group. Generally, end-to-end congestion control adjusts transmission rate of the sender to the node of the lowest throughput in a multicast group. In this situation, when a multicast group includes receivers of significantly low throughput, lots of receivers suffer throughput degradation due to e...

Retransmission Flow Control Mechanism for Reliable Multicast using Adaptive Caching

In recent years, several network support schemes for reliable multicast were proposed. RMAC(Reliable Multicast using Adaptive Caching) provides router-assisted reliable multicast transport. It improves retransmission efficiency by caching transmitted data adaptively to network condition at RMAC routers. Bandwidth utilization is also improved by dropping unnecessary feedbacks and retransmissions...

MLDA: A TCP-friendly Congestion Control Framework for Heterogeneous Multicast Environments

To avoid overloading the Internet and starving TCP connections, multimedia flows using non-congestion controlled UDP need to be enhanced with congestion control mechanisms. In this paper, we present a general framework for achieving TCP-friendly congestion control called MLDA. Using MLDA, multimedia senders adjust their transmission rate in accordance with the network congestion state. For taki...

Avoiding Unnecessary Congestion Responses in Layered Multicast with Heterogeneous Receivers

Receiver-driven layered multicast has been designed to support scalable multimedia applications and very recently used to support bulk file transfers. Layered multicast congestion control assumes that all the receivers behind a bottleneck are equally able to subscribe to a particular number of cumulative layers. This paper explores the requirement placed on heterogeneous receivers behind a bott...

An Efficient Fair Resource Allocation in Multicast Networks

A decentralized algorithm is presented that enables the different rate-adaptive receivers in different multicast sessions to adjust their rates to satisfy some fairness criterion. The problem of congestion control in networks, which supports both multirate multicast sessions and unicast sessions. A one-bit Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) marking strategy to be used at the nodes is also p...
